Transient Lodging Tax Committee Minutes
May 31, 2022

Tyler called the meeting to order at 10:15 am.

Members Present: Tyler Brown, Brian Vegter, Buell Gonzales, Mandy Clark and Tori Thatcher

Guests Present: Shelly Christensen

Approve Agenda: Mandy moved to approve the agenda with the addition of a vote for proposal recommendation to County Commissioners for Tourism and Marketing Services. Buell seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Approve Minutes: Buell moved to approve April 21, 2022 minutes with correction. Brian seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Tourism Marketing – Proposal Recommendation
Buell moved to recommend Jessica Hobson’s proposal to the Baker County Commissioners for Baker County Tourism and Marketing Services. Mandy seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Grant Requests:
Baker City Cycling Classic – Brian Cimmiyotti
Brian Cimmiyotti presented a grant request to three Committee members at their May 19, 2022 meeting. The decision was postponed to this meeting due to a lack of a quorum. Brian Vegter disclosed he is paid as an official from rider registration fees. Baker City Cycling Classic is requesting $5,000 to improve the race by adding chip timing, improve marketing in digital ads, printed material and in-person logistics with other events and cross promotion and improved equipment for on-course sponsor and community promotion. Tyler shared many cyclist return to Baker County as regular visitors after the event. The 2019 grant award to this event was $2,000. Buell stated not promoting free camping helps align with grant guidelines. There was discussion regarding remaining grant funding available. Reallocation of budgeted funds will need to be addressed. The cycling budget line has $3,500 that has not been used fiscal year to date. There has been a route change due to construction so Anthony Lakes will not be the final stage. They are considering the Highway 7, Dooley Mountain, Unity route. Tori moved to grant $5,000 Buell seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Committee Comments
Brian asked if advertising for Toni Thompson’s position has been started. Shelly indicated Heidi Martin will be advertising for two vacancies on the Committee. Tori Thatcher’s term will expire 8/1/22, she has reached her term limit. Buell Gonzales and Tyler Brown are eligible to serve another three-year term. Tyler is an appointed member from the Economic Development Council. He will check with EDC at their next meeting for reappointment.
