Baker County Proclamation
Baker County National Preparedness Month
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, occurring annually in September since 9/11, creates an ideal opportunity for community members, businesses and visitors of Baker County, Oregon to join other community members across the United States in preparing their homes, businesses, and communities for any type of emergency, including natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, Baker County residents have witnessed and experienced natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, every community member can take active steps to protect their families and neighbors from natural and manmade disasters; and
WHEREAS, every family and business in Baker County is encouraged to take active steps to be financially secure after a disaster; and
WHEREAS, every community member is encouraged to make sure they are properly insured against fire, flood, earthquakes, and storms; and
WHEREAS, every individual, family and business is encourage to have a plan and be at least two weeks ready with their disaster preparedness kit; and
WHEREAS, when individuals take responsibility for preparing their families and their communities, the chance of survival and return to normalcy following a disaster is greatly increased, and
WHEREAS, everyone in Baker County is recommended to sign up for Alerts from Baker County (ABC Alerts), our mass notification system, in order to be notified of natural and manmade disasters that could affect them,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Baker County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim,
SEPTEMBER AS BAKER COUNTY NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH.
